The SockPod

It's a soft circuit. And some beading. on top of a hack.
And it plays your favorite tunes while hanging around your neck or head or waist or other way you want to wear it.

  • Pair of socks
    • any lenght you want your final piece to be
    • or any other piece of fabric you want to extend then pod onto
  • Sewing Machine or hand stitching tools
  • Fabric Glue
  • Buttons or Switches for extensions
    • get what you need to design your own push buttons
    • or to hide over Digikey small ones

4. Instructions

-A. Hack a player or make a player

Get your beads ready
Get an existing player you found
Strip it to the bare minimum
Strip it to the bare minimum
Find the buttons
Understand how the buttons work
Use conductive beads and solder
Hack them by soldering small beads
Cheat the contact to test
Test all the hacked buttons


B- Make the soft circuit that will connect the different parts of the player.

In this case, the hacked player will be controlled by buttons accessible from the other end of the long sock (which by the way is actually to socks stitched together).

I simply drew 2 lines out for each button

C- Put all the parts together

The push buttons where stitched at one end of the fabric and backed with thick fabric. The other end of the fabric contains a place holder for the music player to be stiched into and its original buttons connected to the new additions.
